The past few nights, I’ve put my tripod on the back of my bike and gone off riding around town. I hadn’t done the long-exposure night photo thing in years and I had forgotten how much fun it is to be out taking photos at 1 a.m. Plus, the air pollution here makes for really cool looking nighttime skies. Enjoy!

The Expo B-list
Since the World Expo is so crowded, I decided to beat the 3 hour lines and check out some of the lesser- known pavilions and see what they had to offer.
Libya had a portrait of a beaming Qaddafi, and not much else
If murals of Ahmadinejad kissing old people is your thing, then the Iranian Pavilion doesn’t disappoint.
Afghanistan’s really optimistic sign. Inside was a few photos and a rug store.
I feel kind of bad calling countries out, but I don’t think anybody really believes that Togo has high-speed rail.
And of course no visit is complete without North Korea.
And no visit to North Korea is complete without stopping by the gift shop for some Kim Jong-il stamps!

Ferries
You can check out the CNNgo story Frances and I did here
I always enjoy taking the ferries that cross the Huangpu whenever I’m biking to Pudong(they’re also the only way to go if you have a bike). I’ve taken these over the past few months when I’m on the boats.

Milan Design Week
Some of my “Photosynthesis” work is being featured by Illy Coffee at Milan Design Week. If you happen to be in Italy, you should definitely check it out. There are some really great SVA photographers in the show, it’s at Via Tortona 35, Milano until April 19th.

SVA in Shanghai
I just found out about a very cool opportunity to travel and learn photography. SVA is running a Digital Photography Residency in Shanghai in June and July. It’s open to non-SVA students and you can find more information here or by contacting Abby Robinson (Abby(at)Abbyrobinson.com). Plus you can hang out with me.

Oriental Green Boat
You can check out the CNNgo story Frances and I did here
On Sunday, Frances and I caught a bus out to Oriental Green Boat Land in the suburbs of Shanghai. It’s one of the stranger places I think I’ve been to. It’s a holiday resort but with a military theme. The centerpiece of it all is a replica aircraft carrier, which houses a musuem to State Security. They also have a large assortment of mothballed fighter jets all over the place and a large “battlefield” complete with trenches and rusty barbed wire. All in all a pretty interesting place to spend an afternoon, and they have go-karts.
